Jon and Kayla

Love is in the air and so is some serious summer heat! Here we are right in the middle of the summer. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited for the crisp fall air to roll in here soon. This July, the heat and some fireworks still occasionally sounding off in the evenings had me reminiscing about the wedding of Jon and Kayla - a perfect DIY wedding complete with some of that cool air I’ve been dreaming about and an evening sendoff of fireworks and sparklers!

Take a quick glance at these photos and you’ll see their love for one another and their little family pouring out of these images. I was so lucky to have a place amongst everyone on this special October day.

Taking place mostly on some family property (outside of a few portraits just down the road), this wedding was put together by everyone coming together and making dreams a reality. A backyard wedding of this scale takes some real effort and care into every detail, especially sourcing so much of it yourself, and it definitely paid off.

By the time we’d reach the end of the day, even I just didn’t want it to end! The fireworks were a sight to be seen for sure but my favorite part of the whole day was those few precious moments after all the smoke had cleared. Some friends, family, and a couple of smores was such a beautiful and peaceful sendoff after the big sendoff and it solidified just how much I adored their wedding day and care for one another.

Days like this when I can take a step back and soak it in always keep me feeling so fortunate to do what I do in clicking that shutter all day long. Weddings in every season have such amazing strengths to lean into, there’s really no wrong time to tie that knot. This was their vision and I hope I did it the justice it deserves to showcase it all.
